I honestly don’t expect to get many spaghetti westerns on Blu-Ray in the coming years, but there already are a couple of movies available in various quality.
In Italy Mondo Home has released My Name Is Nobody and For a Few Dollars More on both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD couple of years ago. Both movies unfortunately only have Italian audio tracks. Mondo also just recently released a restored edition of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Blu-Ray. The quality of the GBU disc is superior compared to the MGM discs available elsewhere. Unfortunately only with Italian audio.
Ripley’s Home Video released A Fistful of Dollars in a superb Blu-Ray edition last year with both Italian and English audio and subtitles, but the disc is now unfortunately out of print. Anyways, unless the rights owners elsewhere use the print from RHV, I doubt any of the possible new releases will match the quality of the RHV’s Blu-Ray.
MGM has released the Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Blu-Ray in several countries (at least Germany, France and USA, all have English audio [and subtitles?] included). I’m not personally impressed with the quality at all and can only hope we will get something better in the future. But most will not probably find much wrong with it. I also hate the fact that only the longer version is available and with it only the modified gunshot sounds.
And finally the German company 3L have released the Trinity sequel Trinity Is Still My Name on Blu-Ray. The disc has the long German theatrical version which is longer than any previously released disc. Only with Italian and German audio. Unfortunately 3L have used way too much filters on the release… big disappointment for me.
Koch Media will release Lucio Fulci’s Silver Saddle on Blu-Ray in December 2009, the disc should include English audio like their DVD release of the same movie did.
