About Ciakmull (Unholy 4) and other new Seven7 releases from France

By , April 26, 2010 5:18 pm

There have been some discussion (in French which I don’t understand so I might be wrong… :P ) about the quality of the latest Seven7 releases from France being not what they were advertised as (remastered, with French and Italian audio) even perhaps being copies of the Evidis/Fravidis(?) discs of the same movies that have been around for a couple of years. Well, I just received the Ciak Mull and Django le batard discs and as far as Ciak Mull goes it is in fact different transfer (and now it is anamorphic!) than the previous disc BUT does only have French audio and no subtitles. Meaning Amazon.fr is wrong about it having French and English audio (of course I was certain they were wrong) and so is Seven7′s own webpage which still claims the disc to have Italian audio included.

Clint Eastwood in The Spaghetti Western Trilogy Blu-Ray. Click the cover for bigger image.Probably won’t be much news anymore to most but the Spaghetti Western Collection Blu-Ray featuring Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is now available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk with a release date of 7th June 2010.

No details yet on the contents of the release (or perhaps I just didn’t find any), except for the movies included, or possible quality of the transfers but…

New Italian The Good, the Bad and the Ugly releases

By , October 11, 2009 6:53 am

The Italian company MHE has just released The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on both DVD and Blu-Ray. The DVD is a special edition with small book/let included while that is missing from the Blu-Ray edition. MHE has released the movie previously couple of years ago as a very simple edition which left hoping for more. As far as I can tell this is from a new restoration of some sort… at least I hope so. The MGM Blu-Rays aren’t as good as I hoped they would be, so I’m really hoping this will be better.

Unfortunately according to Kultmedia and Videociak the discs have only one Italian track and nothing more. I realize DVD.it claims the Blu-Ray to have English audio but they also claim the aspect ratio to be 1.78:1 which can’t be correct so…

Anyways, I should have the discs (yes, both…) early next week and hopefully can put up some kind of comparison soon after that.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Blu-Ray

By , April 24, 2009 1:25 am

Sergio Leone’s Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo aka The Good, the Bad and the Ugly has finally been released on Blu-Ray. French disc has been available for over a week now and the German disc has just been released. I suspect they are both exactly the same and the US disc which will be released on 12th of May will most likely be the same. DVDBeaver has screenshots from the French disc and unfortunately it doesn’t look as good as I hoped it would be. Still captures won’t tell everything, but…
I hope this will get a release in Italy with a different transfer (other countries will probably use this same MGM transfer?).

And where are mono soundtracks?

Anyways, you can buy the disc from either Amazon.fr or Amazon.de. Or pre-order it from Amazon.com

Antreten zum Beten – Bleigewitter (Reverendo Colt) from NEW

By , March 1, 2008 9:02 pm

Just noticed the next spaghetti western release from the German company NEW will be Reverendo Colt (1971). According to tele movie shop the release will come with three different cover options (one limited) and will include English audio. Release date 31.03.2008.

Another news is some sort of spaghetti book called Spagetti-Heroes – Django – Sartana – Ringo listed at DTM.at. 4 different cover options (all limited) and the book comes with a DVD which seems to have the films A Gun for One Hundred Graves and Vengeance. Don’t know what versions, but I suspect it might be the same disc that X-Rated have released earlier. Release date 31.3.2008.

A Fistful of DVDs updates and blog

By , February 13, 2008 4:46 am

Hi everyone!

For certain reasons it has been quite quiet in here for a long time, I’m sorry about that and believe me it has bothered me a lot. Hopefully I’ll be able to maintain the site better in the future, we’ll have to wait and see. ;)
Anyways, for the past month I have done some changes (slowly…), basically combining the existing site with a blog software that can also be used as some sort of content management system. Well, currently the old site is almost completely as it were before, only the index, DVD lists and a couple of other pages are loaded from the blog software… others may or may not continue to be exactly as they have always been. So basically for now when you enter most of the disc specification or screenshots pages, everything is as it always were.

Since I have installed the blog software it also means there is a blog now. Which is where you are if you’re reading this. The idea now is that it would be easier for me to write about the updates for the site AND visitors could comment and discuss the releases if they wanted to. I’m not sure if that is a good enough reason for a blog software, but oh well… I could also report SW DVD news here and maybe write something else if I ever feel like it (but I don’t promise anything). There are already couple of very old news posts here from the time I was just messing with the software and trying it out. There were even more (couple of very bad reviews which few unfortunately souls were able to see) but I have made most of them either private or deleted them. :P

I’m thinking of redoing the DVD specification pages so that I’ll be able to include them into the search (and one big plus of the software is that it’s automatically very search engine friendly) and also enable comment forms for each of them. Maybe. Unfortunately if I do it it means the addresses for them will change which in turn will break all currently incoming links. So, I’ll have to think about it… Not that there’s many links to my site though, except from the Spaghetti Western Database, but those I can even go and fix myself if needed.

As I’m sure you have already noticed, the fonts for text and links are currently quite small and vary from page to page. I’ll be messing around with them (at least the colors) later but I personally kind of like the size on the new pages right now, at least for the newer wordpress handled pages containing the disc specifications. I do understand the size can be problematic to a lot of people so perhaps I should make it bigger?

As a quick fix at least users of Firefox can change the size of the font themselves for the entire site with a mouse that has a scroll wheel. Just press and hold CTRL-button and roll the wheel up or down to change the font size. It should change everything from the regular text to links to menus. IE seems to be more strict and doesn’t change everything but the same trick can be used with it as well.

Oh and there are lots of emails you have sent me which I haven’t answered and I’m truly sorry about that. I’ll try going through them soon and answering anything I think still requires an answer (as some of them are very old). There’s several thousands of spam messages to go through as well, so it’ll take some time. ;)
